AUCKLAND: APN Outdoor has announced today that the beneficiary charity for the 2016 creative competition Pixel361° is the Child Cancer Foundation, with 41% of the vote in a toughly fought victory.
APN Outdoor turned to the industry to put forward charities that could provide creative inspiration, and be worthy benefactors of $100k worth of APN Outdoor digital media. From here, they entrusted the public to make a call with a Facebook poll that went live Monday the 20th of June and closed Thursday the 30th of June. Child Cancer Foundation was the most popular at the close of voting, amounting over 1,400 votes overall. The top 5 charities that were in the running were Auckland City Mission, Attitude Trust, Child Cancer Foundation, Gastro-Intestinal Cancer Institute, and NZ Aids Foundation.
Upon hearing the news Jo Clark, National Commercial Manager, Child Cancer Foundation commented “Each week more than three children in New Zealand are diagnosed with cancer and at any given time our team is assisting more than 500 families nationwide – offering support in hospital, at home and in the community. This prize will make a huge difference to our fundraising efforts and the support we can provide to those families. Thank you to everyone who voted for Child Cancer Foundation in the poll.”
The top 5 charities were nominated by the advertising and media industry, with the best submissions answering ‘Why would a digital campaign work for this charity?’ The submissions all used varying points for the proposed question, including combatting charity limitations, time targeting and reactivity that digital Outdoor provides.
Janine Wood, General Manager- Marketing, APN Outdoor commented on the success of the competition so far “It’s great to see the industry really getting behind this idea and putting forward the case for the charities they think are not only worthy but could be really positively impacted through the power of Digital Outdoor. The Child Cancer Foundation is a worthy recipient and we look forward to seeing the great creativity produced by Pixel361°.”
Last year’s winning charity, Men’s Health Trust have been working with the 2015 winning team of DDB’s Liz Richards and Nick Dellabarca, who are excited to get their campaign up and running. “It’s an awesome prize for an awesome cause. An exciting brief, for a great client, right through to the pressure of having to present to your peers on the night. It was especially cool to see a media company like APN Outdoor recognise the value in great ideas and lead the way in encouraging creative thinking. ”
Pixel361° highlights APN Outdoor as the pioneer of Digital Outdoor creativity and innovation. Having executed an aggressive digital expansion, APN Outdoor now boasts a portfolio of 12 screens, with 2 new sites in Auckland’s Victoria Park going live early July. The next phase in the competition will be team registrations in early August with the release of the judging panel, competition prize, and information for this year’s teams to register to be released soon.
